Breast Cancer Care WA provides personalised emotional, practical and financial support and care to Western Australians affected by breast cancer.
As part of a joint PhD research project with Edith Cowan University, our team has developed ‘Breast Cancer Click’, an Australia-wide support website for those with breast cancer and their supporters friends, family and carers. The Click is a place for members to connect with others, share their experiences in a safe environment and know they are not alone.
The research project also aims to develop guidelines to support the integration of professional support and advice giving within an online community and has the opportunity to impact the future of professional online health support.
This new online community is currently seeking expressions of interest for a casual Online Breast Care Nurse (approximately 15 hours per week) for an initial 12 month contract.
This role offers a flexible and inspiring work environment with the opportunity to work both inside and outside of normal business hours in order to provide timely online support and information. The ability to work from home and attend team meetings in both West Perth head office and at Edith Cowan University is required, with a computer and broadband provided as part of role.
This unique and specialised role requires a well organised, self motivated, sensitive and caring person with well developed communication and research skills.
Skills and Qualifications (minimum):
Registered Nurse with at least five (5) years post registration experience in either surgical or medical oncology, ideally with at least three (3) years’ experience as a breast care nurse or related discipline
Relevant post graduate qualifications in breast care nursing or relevant experience and ability to complete qualification within twelve months
Key functions include;
• Provide online support and information to breast cancer patients and their supporters
• Research and develop online resources to support and inform members
• Research and develop online breast cancer education resources
• Develop and maintain relationships with relevant contacts Australia wide for member referral
• Adhere and contribute to research and administration requirements of the project
