  Hi Glenys

  I went to SCGH today and saw Plastic Surgeon when I told him that I wanted an Implant he didn't seem all that happy. The Nurse told me that he normally does tram flap surgery and he was trying to talk me into that and I think from the start just assumed that's what I wanted.

  They gave me a booklet about the different procedures and on the front it says " Individual Women. Individual Choices" and on the next page it says " The choice is yours". This didn't seem to be the case, are there some Doctors at RPH that have the same attitude?

  I've read about the different options for 6 months now and know the pros and cons about all procedures, I would rather have no more surgery but since I want 2 boobs I'm going to have to have some kind of surgery.

  Hi Carol
  That must be so frustrating to have done all of that research, to have made a decision for yourself and then to get a response like that. I am not on top of all the info that Glenys can discuss with you but can say that I am with you on this one! Of course you want to listen to the advice of your medical team - but surely you can also choose what is best for you?

  Hi Carol, I agree with Ness re making your own choice after considering all the options. I know Glenys has a really busy week this week but am sure she will try to get back to you re RPH. Alternatively you could ring the BC support there and ask to chat with Glenys or one of the BCNs re surgeons and options available there. Cyn xx

  Hi Carol. You are right - this is your choice. The Plastic Surgeon will usually aim to provide their specialist opinion on the type of reconstructive surgery they believe would be most suitable for a good result. Some Plastic Surgeons do have their own preferences - but ultimately it IS your choice.
  I do feel a chat about this would be best - if you are able to ring me at the RPH Breast Clinic on 9224 3321 tomorrow that would be great!

  hi carol how did u go? i am waiting to get my consultation with my plastic surgeon and i have also been looking at the diff procedures....i hope its going to be an open discussion when it comes to my turn :/ good luck

  Great we've had a chance to catch up about this now Carol, and for you to review the Breast Surgery Digital Gallery at RPH at our appointment this week.
  Was wonderful to meet you, really discuss this in depth and explore what is important to you regarding reconstruction surgery. Looking at the pictures in the gallery of women before and after different reconstruction operations helps with this - as I know many women who attend this service do find as well.
  The Breast Surgery Gallery is under "Resources", however I will also post about it here in Forum.
  Hope you're feeling more comfortable with the plan now Carol.

  Nessa I would recommend to go and see Glenys and look at the gallery of reconstruction photos and have a talk as it helps alot. I've still decided on an implant, I just don't want to have the bigger surgery. Glenys hope we meet again soon.
