Welcome! So great to see you have chosen such a significant and interesting topic for your studies - is this something you think you would like to do more of after school?
I was at a communications conference last week and one of the presenters talked about the concept of health topics fitting into "Tier 1" or "Tier 2" categories. Tier 1 has high public awareness and attracts a lot of fund raising and research funding - whereas other health issues into Tier 2 struggle to attract media attention and funding etc. I think you will find breast cancer is definitely Tier 1, where as prostate cancer is in the second tier. I am not sure if you googled this concept if it would explain more about the reasons for this? Do you want me to follow up with my contact about her paper on this subject? It is being published soon and might give you ideas?
In my experience - women overall talk about health more openly - men are more reserved and definitely don't like the idea of a prostate exam! Given that - society is happy to talk about breasts but less about prostates! I dont have any data to prove this - more my own personal take on it.
Let me know if you want me to chase up something for you about the Tiers.
Cheers
