Hi Everyone.
Just to tell you a bit about myself .. I was born in WA and grew up on a farm before venturing off to the 'big city' to begin my nursing career (oh that was a long time ago!). For many years I worked in surgical oncology (cancer surgery) in a major public hospital before deciding to specialize in breast cancer.
For the last 17 years I have worked as a Specialist Breast Nurse (or Breast Care Nurse) in a major public hospital in Perth, and also in a second major breast centre for the last 4 years. I have been involved in breast cancer research over the last 10 years, which has included breast cancer detection & surgery, genetics & high risk factors, psycho-social & community supports, menopause symptoms and treatments, and long-term outcomes. This has been with universities such as UWA, ECU and Curtin, breast cancer specialists in public and private centres, GPs, and community groups.
Personally, I have a sister diagnosed with breast cancer at 39 yrs (quite recently - had surgery, chemo, radiation and reconstruction and has just completed all treatments), and a sister-in-law who also had all treatments 12 years ago & had bilateral surgery. Although I was 'breast nurse' for both, it certainly gave me a different perspective! I am so happy to say they are both doing well.
I am very passionate about doing all I can to help to improve outcomes for women (and men) diagnosed with breast cancer (or at risk of), and their supporters. I look forward to this fantastic opportunity to provide support and assistance to members of the 'Click' ..
Please feel free to send me private messages, post queries in Q&A, or 'pop-up' chat when I'm online. Our regular 'clickchat' sessions are a great place to get to know each other too! Would love to hear from you and help in any way I can .. x
