‘Picking Up the Pieces’
Many people struggle with getting their feet back on the ground after cancer treatments. In our Clickchat session on this topic, members came up with their thoughts and ideas on what helps …
- 1. Give yourself TIME … time out, time for yourself, time to recuperate
- 2. Be generous and kind to yourself, spoil yourself sometimes
- 3. Stop waiting for life to get back to normal - ‘normal’ is not the same as before
- 4. Challenge what is ‘normal’ anyway ... create your own!
- 5. Chat with people who understand – read their stories, share your thoughts and feelings
- 6. Write your own story (write a blog here!)
- 7. Find out what supports are available if you need them – have contact details handy
- 8. Recognize when you need help!
- 9. Access the appropriate resources if you need to … when you need to
- 10. Find the humour in things every day
- 11. LAUGH .. a really good belly laugh!
- 12. Take loooooooooong baths with bubbles .. and sip some bubbly if you like (Ness likes cider!)
- 13. Take a dose of chocolate regularly .. yes, it always comes back to chocolate (cures everything!!)
- 14. PLAN for good things .. holidays, learning new things, hobbies, ‘ME’ time!
- 15. Learn to PRIORITISE (that means sometimes YOU come first!)
- 16. EXERCISE – gentle daily exercise rejuvenates the soul
- 17. Plant a tree and watch it grow .. and grow .. and grow
- 18. Volunteer in your community .. ACT, BELONG, COMMIT
- 19. Reach out to someone in need, even if just to be there to listen
- 20. Plan for a stronger, better you!
